2. What is the file size limit?
We have not set a maximum file size restriction. But, large files may be very slow for you to upload and for ETD readers to access.

3. What is an "Internal Multimedia Object"?
These objects (i.e., files) are embedded in a PDF file. Any object drawn or pasted into a PDF ETD from another application is an Internal Multimedia Object.

4. What is an "External Multimedia Object"?
These objects (i.e., files) are not embedded (i.e., inserted or pasted) into a PDF file. Rather, an External Multimedia Object lives in its own file. It can be hyperlinked from within the PDF file, but then the ETD will not be PDF/A compliant.

5. May I link to external multimedia objects from my ETD?
PDF/A does not allow links to external objects. If you get an exception from the Graduate School to submit multiple files, you may provide the location of the external multimedia object but may not link to it.

6. May I include executable files or Matlab simulations?
If you have requested and received an exception from the Graduate School, you may include these files in your ETD.

7. Can I have internal figures in a "landscape" orientation?
Yes.

8. Is it possible to scan text to add to my ETD?
Converting scanned images into a text format involves optical character recognition (OCR). Scanners attached to systems running Adobe Capture can convert to PDF and OCR at the same time. This makes the scanned text searchable and editable. Acrobat v.8 and v.9 have OCR functions too and are available for use in the InnovationSpace, 1140 Torgersen.
