1. Can I submit paper copies instead of an
ETD? |

No. The Graduate School will accept electronic theses and dissertations
only. |

2. Can I submit a paper version as well as my
ETD? |

No. The Graduate School will accept electronic theses and dissertations

3. If we submit electronically, do we still have
to pay the binding fee?'' |

The Graduate School now collects an archiving fee.'' This money is used to
maintain the Digital Library of ETDs in perpetua. |

4. How do I submit an Undergraduate
Thesis? |
| |
Prepare and submit this document as you would an ETD but select Major
Paper'' on the submission form (instead of Master's Thesis'' or
Dissertation''). |

5. I have already graduated. May I submit an ETD
version of my work? |
| |
Yes. Alumni may submit ETD versions of their theses or dissertations. Your ETD
must pass the regular review and have the proper release forms signed before we will
be able to make it available electronically. |

6. Where do I find specifications on submission
format: margins, point sizes, writing style, etc.? |

7. How does UMI get their copy for filming and
copyrighting? |
| |
When you pay your $55 UMI fee, the Graduate Schools sends UMI a signed title
page and the "UMI form." UMI, then:
- Downloads the ETD from our server
- Puts the ETD on their ETD server (pay-per-view)
- Prints a paper copy (black and white)
- Photographs the paper onto microfilm
- Stores the microfilm in their argon vaults
- Shreds the paper copy
- Publishes your abstract in "Dissertation Abstracts"
You get a 10% commission when they sell copies of your dissertation, paid on the
"sevens" (7, 17, 27, ...).
