Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Markup Language (ETD-ML):

• Allows semantic encoding of ETDs independent of visual appearance
• Allows simplified hypertext and multimedia
• Can be retrieved and viewed electronically
• Can be stored in machine archives
• Survives short-lived rendering software
• Based on international standards for electronic publishing (SGML, HyTime)
